The Texas Tuscan model home featured in the San Antonio Parade of Homes in 2005 includes a dramatic 8,000 square foot circular motor court and driveway. The hard landscape features behind the home include 2,500 square feet of covered concrete patio, a 1,500 square foot concrete pool deck, and a 4,500 square foot detached concrete gazebo. Mike Logsdon, owner of LandDesign Texas who created the landscape master plan, says, "Installing stamped concrete allowed a limitless palette of colors and textures to create an exotic natural look for a fraction of the cost of natural stone." The Pennsylvania Slate Pavecrafters tool set manufactured by L. M. Scofield Company is comprised of 30 different "single stone Prestige tools" that vary in size from 6 x 6 inches up to 3 x 4 feet. This enabled the contractors to lay out the pattern randomly in variations that did not appear to repeat. The result looks like custom hewn stone work. It took a seven man crew three days to place, color imprint and seal the 8,000 square foot concrete driveway. LITHOCHROME Color Hardener was used for the base which was imprinted, because it provides a rich paste that gives the decorative concrete patterns a crisp edge. The high opacity Arizona Tan which was broadcast and worked into the upper layer of the concrete also improved the density and durability for vehicular traffic. Russet and Terra Cotta color hardener were randomly distributed over the surface, then floated and troweled into the concrete to complement the mottled color of the barrel clay roof tiles. A colored powdered release agent in La Crescenta Brown was used to aid clean release of the concrete stamping tools and also add depth and dimension to the stamped concrete pattern. The project is an award-winner in the 2006 Concrete Pavement Awards for "decorative and durable designs" using cast-in-place concrete. |
