The Next Step in the Evolution of Environmental Hardscaping
SOLACHROME is the first patented* concrete coloring system specifically designed to help minimize the Urban Heat Island Effect.
SOLACHROME High-SRI Concrete Systems allow the designer to look beyond the visible color spectrum to keep concrete pavement cooler. SOLACHROME’s formulated lighter and darker colors utilize pigments with high near-infrared (NIR) reflectivity, which reduces the amount of the sun’s energy that is absorbed by the pavement and radiated back into the atmosphere as heat. That heat – known as the Urban Heat Island Effect – results in compromised health and comfort, as well as a host of other negative effects including increased energy consumption, elevated levels of air pollution and ground level ozone, and increased temperature of water runoff which is detrimental to aquatic life.
There is also a more tangible benefit to lowering surface pavement temperatures: human comfort. SOLACHROME High-SRI Concrete Systems can be used almost anywhere lower surface temperatures are desired. SOLACHROME is an effective paving solution for parks, plazas, pool decks, outdoor cafes and restaurants, sidewalks, theme parks, streetscapes – anyplace the comfort of customers or pedestrians is a concern.
SOLACHROME High-SRI Concrete Systems colors are permanent and non-fading and they meet or exceed the LEED® minimum standard for Sustainable Sites - 7.1 Heat Island Effect, Non-Roof.
