SOLACHROME High-SRI Concrete Systems allow the designer to look beyond the visible color spectrum to keep concrete pavement cool. SOLACHROME's formulated lighter and darker colors utilize pigments with higher NIR reflectivity, which will reduce the amount of the sun's energy that is absorbed and turned into heat. That heat – known as the Urban Heat Island Effect – is transmitted back into the atmosphere resulting in compromised health and comfort, as well as a host of other detrimental effects including increased energy consumption and elevated levels of air pollution.
In tests under simulated conditions, SOLACHROME High-SRI Concrete Systems demonstrated a surface temperature from ten to thirty degrees cooler than comparably colored concrete made with conventional concrete coloring materials.
SOLACHROME™ High-SRI Topping
Patented SOLACHROME High-SRI Topping is a cost-effective way to increase the solar reflectivity of existing concrete surfaces. SOLACHROME High-SRI Topping is a trowelable cementitious topping material that cures to create a hard, durable, abrasion-resistant and colorful wear surface. SOLACHROME High-SRI Topping is formulated to provide a substantially higher Solar Reflectivity Index (SRI) than can be achieved using similarly colored conventional concrete toppings.
SOLACHROME High-SRI Topping can be used almost anywhere a lower surface temperature is desired, and is an innovative solution for parks, plazas, pool decks, outdoor cafes and restaurants, sidewalks, theme parks, waterparks*, streetscapes – wherever the comfort of customers or pedestrians is a concern.
SOLACHROME™ Integral Treatment for High-SRI Colored Concrete
The patent-pending formulations of SOLACHROME Integral Treatment are designed to provide higher solar reflectivity for freshly placed concrete than conventional concrete coloring additives. In addition, many color selections of SOLACHROME Integral Treatment contain an SRI-restoring capability which; in the presence of moisture and sunlight; can break down many of the surface contaminants that reduce a concrete surface's SRI over time. The result is concrete that may make a longer-lasting contribution to heat island mitigation than conventional concrete.
