This project consisted of pouring a 5" thick slab to create the splash pad for an interactive fountain. The slab was integrally colored with CHROMIX® Admixtures for Color-Conditioned® Concrete in bands of Fiesta Red, Dark Gray and Bridgeport Beige to create a compass rose design. There are eight large "armillaries" encircling the compass rose, each supporting a 2" water nozzle pointing toward the center of the compass. There are twenty-four niches cast into the slab, each containing a water nozzle and LED lighting. There are eight large niche lighting fixtures embedded in the center of the concrete slab to provide additional lighting displays. Underneath the concrete slab is a cast-in-place water reservoir, capable of holding up to 9,000 gallons to supply the fountain water nozzles.

"A large amount of time was spent in the planning stage of the project regarding the colored pours," according to Sean Ebbert of Pearson Construction Company. "A schedule of pours was created for a 30-day period during the month of July to complete the project. The schedule required orchestrating a complex number of pours based on particular days and specific colors to create the desired pattern. The compass rose design was formed and multiple, non-adjacent sections poured of the same color to help minimize any color differentiation. Protecting the adjacent finished sections was also critical to delivering a clean, un-splattered project to the owner."
