"This was a very challenging project," states Dave Edwards of Edwards Concrete. "The art director for SeaWorld wanted the boardwalk and the stone in the cave to look like beach sand had blown onto them."
Edwards Concrete accomplished this by using a sand finish and applying LITHOCHROME® Color Hardener in Beige Cream, then incorporating seashells, green & blue tumbled glass, sand, and limestone aggregate onto the freshly placed color hardener. The result: the illusion of beach sand.
The loading platform for the roller coaster was designed to look like a wooden boardwalk. "We used LITHOCHROME® Color Hardener in Pecan Tan and a 12" Pine stamping tool with LITHOCHROME® Antiquing Release in Walnut at 4” thick to accomplish the desired look," says Edwards. The boardwalk stamp was also used in the cave leading up to the roller coaster ride, along with LITHOTEX® Pavecrafters® Canyon Stone stamp for the stone affect. The pedestrian paths and sidewalks were poured 6" to 8" thick using 1/2" river rock to expose the aggregate. The scope of work covered 62,857 sq ft.
